Leucophoenicite structure possesses edge-shared pairs of O 4 tetrahedra that are half-occupied by Si, and the crystals contain planar faults parallel to (001). The latter are interpreted as lamellae of other members of a proposed leucophoenicite series (analogous to the well-known humite series). Humite series members were occasionally intergrown with leucophoenicite. In the electron beam, leucophoenicite readily decomposes to tephroite.--Modified journal abstract.
