Hydrothermal synthesis of goethite-rutile intergrowth structures and their relationship to pseudorutile

Ian E. Grey, Christina Li, and John A. Watts

CSIRO Div. Mineral. Chem., Port Melbourne, Vic., Australia

Single-phase pseudorutile-related products for the composition range 0.3 < or = Ti/(Ti + Fe) < or = 0.6. Thermal analysis and X-ray powder diffraction. Natural pseudorutile has very similar properties to the synthetic phases and should properly be considered as an oxyhydroxide mineral rather than as an oxide or oxide-hydrate as it has been previously described.--Modified journal abstract.
